Bake up some doggie treats!
I had a couple hours free to putter about at home this afternoon, so I pulled out a bowl and got baking, much to my doggies' delight!
Here are the couple recipes I made up on the spot - they could use some refining I suppose, but the treats turned out well... and got the Bruce Lee stamp of approval! :) Have fun experimenting!
tuna apple nibbles
1 egg
1 can water packed tuna
1/2 c water or any kind of stock/broth
1 small red apple
2 c brown rice flour
1-2 c oat flour
1 T garlic powder (not garlic salt)
In a blender or food processor, blend egg, tuna, water, and apple until smooth.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together all the brown rice flour, 1 cup of oat flour and garlic powder. Add tuna mixture to flours until well-mixed. Add more oat flour until the dough is firmer - about the consistency of regular cookie dough. (Brown rice & oat flours are both gluten-free so they won't firm up or begun sticky like wheat flour - they just have to be handled with a bit more care to avoid crumbling.)
Turn out mixture on to a piece of parchment paper and roll out until it's about 1/2" thick, keeping the size of your cookie sheet in mind.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove from oven and cut into 1/2" wide strips, then into smaller cubes. Turn down oven to about 250 degrees, and return cookie sheet with the treat cubes to dry out and harden.

pumpkin cinnamon bones
1 can pure pumpkin
1/2 c water
3 T organic coconut oil
2 T agave nectar or honey (optional)
1 T cinnamon
1 T baking powder
1 T vanilla
2 c brown rice flour
1 c oat flour
In a large mixing bowl, mix together all the dry ingredients. In a glass bowl, scoop out coconut oil and zap in microwave for 20-40 seconds until it is melted. Mix in pumpkin, water, vanilla, and agave nectar. Add wet ingredients to dry mixture. If the dough seems too soft to roll out, add a bit more oat flour and/or refrigerate for 15 minutes.
Turn out mixture on to a lightly floured surface (I prefer to use oat flour for this), bring dough together and roll until about 1/2" thick. Use cookie cutter to cut out into shapes and place on parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 20-25 minutes. Turn down oven to 250 degrees and let dry out for a few hours. You could also just leave oven closed, shut it off, and let dry overnight. I like to sneak out a few cookies before the drying begins for the doggies to have a more moist, brownie-like soft treat... but it of course keeps better when it's completely dried.
